After a big win in their first game at home against Ecclesia College 115- 51, the Jaguars were looking to push the momentum in Saturday night’s match-up against Champion Baptist College, who were coming off a huge loss in their last game.
Southern started hot in the first half, giving the Tigers a taming, going up by 10 in the first few minutes of the game, and the way the Jaguars are playing made this a one-sided match quickly. Shooting a crisp 68% from the field, along with shooting 58% from the three and 88% from the free throw, it is safe to say Southern was feeling confident coming into this one. But it wasn’t only the offensive end that put the Jaguars ahead; forcing the Champion Christian to shoot 28% from the field, and get shut down completely by the Jaguar defense, making the score 67-29, almost a 40-point difference going into halftime.
Right after, Southern didn’t waste any time going back to running the clinic they had going against Champion Christian still shooting 62% from the field in the second half, but slowing up from the three, hitting only 5 of 14 shots. Southern was still successful overall when it came to getting to the line and hitting 13 of 18 free throws and holding the Champion Tigers to a struggling 31% from the field and a consistent 20% from the three. The result of this one-sided battle would be 129-64. The Jaguars were active on the defensive end racking up 19 steals with Senior Cam Amboree with 6 of them. Even though everyone had their fair share with scoring, Senior Mike Jacobs lead in scoring with 26 points, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Next time the Southern Jaguars will be out again, it will be against the University of Washington at their place at Alaska Airlines Arena at 8:30pm on November 18, 2025, which will also be streamed on Peacock TV.
