In their last match up, the Lady Jaguars were coming off a loss versus Bethune-Cookman but were hopeful to wipe that from their memory in Sunday’s match-up against a 3-13 FAMU on October 12. The Lady Jaguars were slow to start in the first set with 2 quick scores by the FAMU offense, and they would continue to be persistent. The Lady Jaguars were looking to switch momentum, but FAMU showed no signs of slowing down, coming out on top for the first set.
But that all changed in the second set as FAMU continued their fight in the beginning of the second with a solid 0-3 start. However, that didn’t last long with the Lady Jaguars coming through with a momentum shift that carried on with a big kill coming from Senior, Opposite Hitter Jordan Felix; the Lady Jaguar defense capitalized off that getting 2 big defensive stops by Junior, Outsider Hitter Ariana Brown. FAMU were fighting hard to stay in this one, but it was only a matter of time before the Lady Jaguars started pulling away, getting their first win of the game.
In the third set, the Lady Jaguars set the tone well by getting a service error and 2 aces by Ariana Brown and after that the 2 teams started having a back-and-forth battle with the scoring difference being so close, but the Lady Jaguars had enough and scoring 2 kills from Graduate, Opposite Hitter Bailee St. Romain and a service ace by Freshman, Middle Blocker Sophie Diouf.
Starting off the fourth set, FAMU were looking to get hot early making the score 7-2 but as soon as our girls came back out of the timeout, they were looking to hit the ground rolling. Despite the lead FAMU had upon them, the Lady Jaguars made it a quick turnaround, playing great defense and scoring big late in the game with another clutch service ace by Sophie Diouf and a kill by Ariana Brown leading the Lady Jaguars to a 3-1 win.
The Lady Jaguars will be back at home at Clifford Seymour Gym on Wednesday, October 15 where they will take on Dillard University at 6:00pm.
