Southern defensive end Vince Lands finished his final home game in A.W. Mumford Stadium with 11 tackles (5 solo, 6 assists), five of them for loss, and had 2.5 sacks in SU’s 31-24 double-overtime defeat of Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Saturday.
Lands made one first-quarter sack and 1.5 sacks in the fourth quarter as Southern rallied to stay in the hunt for the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division title.
Southern is idle this weekend, and will travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on Alabama State in the annual Gulf Coast Classic game next week. The Jaguars must defeat the Hornets in order to have a shot at the West title.
Southern remains tied with Prairie View in league play and one game behind Grambling State.
On the season, Lands is third on the team in tackles with 60 (35 solo, 25 assists), and is first in tackles for loss with 20. He also leads the team in sacks with six.
The Baton Rouge native ranks fourth in the SWAC in sacks and second in tackles for loss.Lands also ranks third in Division I FCS in TFL.
