The Southern University Jaguars (0-1) men’s basketball team will take its first road trip of the season this weekend, as head coach Rob Spivery and his team heads to Waco, Texas, Saturday to take on the Baylor University Bears (2-0) at the Ferrell Center on the Baylor University campus. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
Saturday’s meeting will be the second half of a home-and-home series with Southern. Last season, the Bears defeated the Jaguars 71-60 in Baton Rouge on Dec. 21, 2007. Baylor is 3-0 all-time vs. Southern and 2-0 under head coach Scott Drew.
The Jags are coming off of a 67-78 loss to Tougaloo College on last Friday night. In that contest, SU blew a 3-point halftime lead, by being outscored 45-31 in the second half. Southern 38 percent in the second half (10-of-26), while making just two of 10 3-point attempts.
Chris Davis led the Jags in scoring with 16 points, also dishing out four assists, pulling down six rebounds and he also had one steal. Barry Honore’ added 12 points and eight rebounds. Gregory Horne added nine points and four rebounds. Douglas Scott pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with four points.
