As Valentine’s Day rapidly approaches, many students at Southern University are scrambling to find last minute, inexpensive date options that will not add to the weight of their college expenses.
When it comes to Valentine’s Day, there are many date choices, as well as gift ideas, to select from that will please your significant other without spending a lot of money.
According to dating.about.com there are some inexpensive ways to satisfy your loved one on Valentine’s Day such as: baking a red velvet cake, writing a love letter, giving a massage or making a compact disc with a mixture of his/her favorite songs.
Laycee Joyce, freshmen mass communications major from New Orleans, said, “The worst Valentine’s Day gift is something that suggests improvement such as: weight loss pills, weave, acne cleansers or etc.”
Stretcher.com suggests that fun, less expensive dates include: going for a walk, visiting a museum, listening to live music or lectures at a book store or enjoying a simple picnic.
Senior political science major Jared Crawford from Lake Charles said, “There are many date options for college students to choose from such as going to the movies, attending a program conducted on campus, going to dinner or taking a walk in a park.”
Many places right here at Southern can assist anyone searching for cheap Valentine’s Day dates. The Bluff provides couples the chance to walk along the Mississippi River while the sun sets.
The Southern University Museum of Art grants couples the opportunity to reflect upon art pieces and history.
“My idea of a cheap Valentine’s Day date is going out with my boyfriend to a local restaurant and just enjoying each others’ company, nothing too fancy,” said Jasmine Nappier, a freshmen biology major from Oakdale.
Valentine’s Day is not set aside for couples only. Singles can throw a mixer or a non-Valentine’s Day party. Also, purchasing a gift or doing something nice for family and friends is another way to display Valentine’s Day love.
