LORMAN, Miss. – As the 2008 spring concert approached, it was the talk of Alcorn State University. No one knew the headline act was to be. Rumors circulated that rapper Plies or R&B crooner Keyshia Cole would headline the annual show.
But when doors opened on April 9, it was Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy and R&B singer Trey Songz who took the stage.
“I think that this will be one of the most exciting concerts that we have ever had,” said Derrick Jones, a junior agriculture/economics major. “This will definitely be one of the most memorable concerts because you have two of the most talented artists performing: one for the guys and one for the ladies. This will definitely be one of the most memorable concerts.”
There are some students who are looking for a wider variety at the spring concert.
For the past four years there have been rappers.
“I wish Alcorn had more variety in who we showcase,” said Ashley. Rankin, a junior and biology major.
“Usually we have rap artist, which is fine, but I’d prefer to see an artist like Jill Scott or Beyonce.” While there isn’t a consensus, many agree this year’s lineup is better than 2007.
