I’M TIRED BATON ROUGE’S
DOUBLE STANDARD
“Last Tuesday night, when the sudden death of an SU Student shocked the city, the first things that came up in the media was that it must of been foul play or the student must of passed out from drinking. First of all, we knew it wasn’t foul play; secondly, he wasn’t a drinker. Those assumptions were made because he was on this campus. If he had died on LSU those assumptions would not have been made. There is clearly a double standard in this community. If anything bad happens within a 15 mile radius of Southern, then somehow the media will tie it in to Southern’s campus even if it has nothing to do with Southern University students. Why is that or are I and the other thousands of people who realize this double standard over exaggerating?”

CAN I GET SOME CUSTOMER
SERVICE PLEASE?
“Mr. Taylor, I guess you woke up real early the morning you wrote this story, scratching your privates, thinking…What kind of tea will I spill today? Well Mr. Taylor, this is some OLD, TIRED, LATE tea. The kids on the yard already know that Southern does not offer the best of “Customer Service” but it is far better than it used to be. You are grabbing in the sky for something to write about and are pulling nothing. Basically, you are coming up empty. Use your time at Southern to think and to write about the good things that go on there. You and your friends may have had some bad experiences, but I’m certain that the whole financial aid office, all of the food service workers, everyone that works in housing, and certainly not everyone in the registrar’s office is bad. Southern University is not Burger King, and you CANNOT, “have it your way!” Now if you really want to spill some HAWT TEA, write about what goes on in Gradison Hall on the 3rd floor or what the girls are doing in Totty.”
Peace, Kris
“Praise the Lord, I am so glad someone brought this up. I get complaints about this from the workers at this great university do they need to take a class on how to greet someone or to talk to someone when they come in for help. You have to give respect to get respect maybe. Madea need to go to Southern and give a class.”

Amen, Finally someone has said it, and lets continue to say it until all offices on the Baton Rouge, campus realize that you are being paid to give helpful, courteous service for 8 hours, even when someone is rude to you, do not take it out on the next student or guest looking for and asking for some assistance, for kindness is always the best medicine. SMILE, It takes 26 muscles to smile and 62 muscles to frown. A parent of a SU student.

INSPIRED BY A TRIP TO BALTIMORE
Congratulations. The Digest can truly open up many doors for you if you work hard and love what you do. I remember going to NY, AL and GA. Enjoy it and use your experience as a resume builder. Save those clips. The time will go by so fast. Former News Editor 2003-2004.

FAITH PROVIDES SOLACE IN TIMES OF CONFUSION
I’m Buddhist student on this campus, I am mad that the “Religion and Faith” page doesn’t include any religions other than Christianity. Perhaps the editor should change the name to “Jesus” because that’s they only thing I’ve seen so far from this paper. Baton Rouge is a small city, but there is diverse religious culture that I think the editor won’t cover because she’s scared of something different, to lazy to research other religions, and close minded.

GIOVANNI SPEAKS AT SU
I saw Nikki at tne Miami Book Fair recently. I am so impressed with this woman and she always keeps it raw/real. I would give anything to spend time with this, my most favorite Black Woman. She is steadfast, and is oh so credible. I first liked her, admired her, was in awe of her, now I just love her. I look forward to her return to Miami.

I am glad to hear she inspired students in a positive way during her recent SUBR visit. Though I still don’t agree with all of her views, and still think she comes across as too angry. The younger generations do need to hear history from those who have lived through some of it… before it gets dilluted by textbooks written for the masses… and as we all know history was not very pretty when it comes to social justice.
