Southern University and A&M College recently released the first two artists of their highly anticipated homecoming concert lineup. The concert features Latto and Coco Jones, which many students find rather displeasing. Some students complain about the lack of male headliners while others just flat out dislike the artists. Makia Tripplet, Senior, says “I don’t particularly care for it. Only because I don’t listen to coco jones.” When asked about Latto the senior had to say, “Latto is cool, but she doesn’t appeal to both males and females.”
Conner Goodly, Sophomore, gave his comments on the matter as well. Goodly says “she’s a great rapper, she’s a great rhythmic decision and she can bring valuable energy to our campus for homecoming. I’m Super excited to see her live in concert.” Goodly also had to say “Coco needs to sing all her songs from let it shine. I feel like she was a decent, underrated decision. I don’t really care for her though, she’s from our childhood. leave it in the past. I feel like she’s a piece of the past and should be left there, the only way her presence will be valuable is if she sings her songs to let it shine.”
Tailor Lawrence, Freshman, shared her opinion on the matter as well. The Sophomore states “As a student at Southern University I am strongly disappointed in the lineup. We pay so much money into tuition to be able to receive these exciting events, only for them to spend the money artists we do not want.” The Sophomore continued, “Coco Jones has one song that she is going to stretch out for ten minutes. Latto is a good artist, but we all do not listen to her, I feel it was thrown together and the rest of the line up just might be everybody that’s always performing in the clubs with us for free. This line up is horrible and a waste of money that could’ve been my refund.” Students seem to be deeply dissatisfied with the Fall ’23 Homecoming Concert line up.
Caston Bolton, Sophomore, had to say “I think Latto is ok, she’s fine and we grew up watching her on the rap game. I’m cool with her coming for homecoming.” He also added, “I don’t really know much about Coco Jones besides let it shine. I don’t really know why they would bring her but maybe people listen to her, I don’t know.” Students have mixed reviews regarding the homecoming concert, many people are buzzing with excitement while others are angry. Hopefully the unrevealed artists on this year’s lineup can redeem the concert for many students. And maybe some students will grow to like Latto and Coco Jones after this upcoming concert. Regardless, Homecoming Festivities will kick off on October 12-15, and we hope to see you all there, Go Jags!
