Being able to showcase your talent at your university is a highlight during your college journey. On October 29th at 6 in the evening, The Association for Women Students held their Worldwide Hair show and Beauty Expo in the Brown-Smith Memorial Royal Cotillion Ballroom. The Hair show and Beauty Expo was considered a form of community and sisterhood for female students.
The Association for Women Students held this event to showcase all the talented women and their hair businesses on campus. As the start of the show, the first vendors were Twinzslayedit, SlayedbyMegan, and Morgdidthat. The vendors showed their work by having models, walk the runway with their hair styled by each vendor. After all the models walked the stage, the vendors introduced themselves and shared with the audience more about their business. This event gave the opportunity for the vendors to get more clientele and show off their work.
During the show, a break was held, and the audience had the chance to go to the different tables and meet the vendors. The vendors got the chance to have personal time with the audience and were able to spread their business information in detail. Senior, Secondary Education Major, Clark Fisher, shared with digest what stood out the most to her about the Hair show and Beauty Expo. “It gives people the chance to show their business.” Having the opportunity to show off your business and talent to your collages is a great way to start networking and help your business grow. Junior, Nia Jackson, shares what she liked about the show as well. “Seeing everyone’s creative work and different vendors, was a great experience, I hope to see more talent from other organizations”.
During the second half of the show, the rest of the vendors had their chance to showcase their talent. At the end of the show, Digest briefly met with Association of Women Students President, Gabrielle C. Stevens. As president, Gabrielle C. Stevens had the role of creating this event for the student body. Gabrielle shares what her favorite part of the event was. “My favorite part was when the students were able to show how creative they can get”. She added, “We see other shows and we never do things like this, so it makes me excited to see the students participate in things like this.” In Her position she makes sure to oversee and work with her other cabinet members to make these lovely events happen. Her and her organization members work so hard to make the events happen and with their help to make the necessary visions come to life is all about teamwork and sisterhood. Having a Hair Show and Beauty Expo at an HBCU is important. It helps promote young black businesses and increase college student success. Going forward, the event the Association of Women Students hosted was a total success and help the students who participated launch their business for more clients. We look forward to seeing more ways to help students promote and grow their talent.
