Dr. Anthony Jackson, who’s originally from Ruston, Louisiana, is a loving husband, father, and the new interim vice chef of enrollment management for Southern University. Dr. Jackson first attended college at Louisiana Tech University, where he got his undergraduate degree in management and marketing, then went on a process to get his industrial organization psychology degree there as well. In addition, Dr. Jackson continued pursuing his career by attending Grambling State University to get his master’s in psychology, then finally getting his Ph.D. in educational leadership at Louisiana State University. Before he started at Southern University, there were several positions that Dr. Jackson held at schools such as Grambling State. Most of his positions were with the housing administration, but he had several positions in higher education at Louisiana State for student affairs. He worked for other universities such as the University of New Orleans and Xavier University before he came to work at Southern University and has been a member of the staff for ten years. Since being here with the program, he has been nothing but an accomplishment for him so far, and one thing he lives by is, “find something that you love and stick with it, especially for young people as his passion is with the students.” Dr. Jackson told how he understood the students and loved to hear their stories because he was once in the same shoes as them as when decisions get tough you must dig deep down to find yourself again. He has been a part of some recent additions the University has made such as the opening of the bowling alley, doing a 20/20 scholarship, and a few updates to the food court in the student union. There are also plans for student housing development and the new student union development that he was invested in to develop. Aside from working hard in the office, in his free time, Dr. Jackson enjoys spending time with his family. A husband and a father of two sons take time to travel places and accomplish things that he didn’t have a chance to do growing up. One of his key goals is to continue building the office as a team and find their reason which is to make sure the student body is successful. After speaking with students Kendall Brown and Destiny Williamson, they gave their opinions on how they think Dr. Jackson is doing so far in the new position and how they think he will help students with reaching their financial needs to avoid purging. Destiny said, “I believe Dr. Jackson is the right person for the position as most of the students always visit him in his office to talk about anything that he could help us out with” while Kendall stated that “Dr. Jackson is the type of guy that once we reach being alumni we can come back and still expect him to be around serving the University and helping students with scholarships, financial aid, and more.” As the interim vice chef of enrollment management, Dr. Jackson is on a path to continue achieving accomplishments and helping others reach their goals as we look forward to this new term.
