ART EXHIBIT
The Smith-Brown Memorial Union and River Road African American Museum and Gallery present “Civil Rights Moved Here.” The collection features photos from the Greater Baton Rouge Civil Rights Movements. The exhibit will be on display February 4-28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the student union lobby.
LITERARY SOCIETY SPRING ACTIVITIES
The SU Literary Society invites everyone to attend its spring semester activities, which include book reviews, a lecture series and a readers’ series featuring local and regional authors reading their works. Book reviews will be held March 18 and April 22. The Readers’ Series will be held March 19 and April 23. FOUNDERS DAY 2003
Festivities for Founders’ Day 2003 will be held during the week ending March 7, with the Annual Convocation being held at Seymour Gym. This year’s theme is – “Southern University: A Lamp Still Burning.” All 20, 30, and 40+ year personnel will be honored at the Annual Service Awards Luncheon. All vice chancellors and department heads are encouraged to contact the Office of Human Resources to confirm the names of departmental or divisional personnel who may be eligible for this recognition. All students are encouraged to enter the Poster Design and Essay Competition. The criteria to enter the contest includes – A.) Must be currently enrolled at SUBR. MLK CATHOLIC STUDENT CENTER
The MLK Student Center is located at 586 Harding Blvd, across from Seymour Hall. Sunday Mass is at 11 a.m. and weekday mass is Monday-Friday at 12 noon. Lent is coming up, beginning Ash Wednesday, March 5. Ashes will be blessed that day at 7 a.m. and distributed on the hour till 8 p.m. “Remember child, that you are dust and to dust you shall return. The Rev. Al Sharpton will be speaking on the issues facing America as a candidate for President Saturday, February 22 at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Theatre located at 1305 Myrtle Street in Baton Rouge. SU STUDENT TO SPEAK AT BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM
Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church invites all to attend a special Black History program Sunday, February 23 at 7 a.m. The theme is “A Portrait of Black History.” Special guest speaker for the event will be Rev. Joseph J. Mitchell, pastor and founder of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Rev. Mitchell is a senior at Southern majoring in psychology. Mount Pilgrim is located at 736 North 36th Street in Baton Rouge.
PSYCHOLOGY AND REHABILITATION CAREER DAY
The Department of Psychology and Rehabilitation will sponsor its annual career day on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 in the Cotillion Ballroom from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Psychology and Rehabilitation Services majors are strongly encouraged to attend. PREPARATION ASSISTANCE
Free assistance with preparation of your 2002 income tax forms is available from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each Saturday, beginning February 15 until April 12 at the Southern University Law Center, A.A. Lenoir hall on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will help qualified persons prepare the 1040A and 1040EZ forms. ETHNIC AWARENESS DAY
The Division of Family and Consumer Sciences will host its Second Annual Ethnic Awareness Day on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Thrift Hall lobby (Family and Consumer Sciences Building). The purpose of Ethnic Awareness Day is to encourage the faculty, staff and students of Southern University to focus on their ethnic heritage and to educate others about the different ethnic groups represented by faculty, staff and students on campus. There will be cultural exhibits including art, fabrics and music. Authentic Kenyan dishes will be available to sample, among other cultural dishes. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about different ethnic cultures that may have made specific contributions to the African American culture. Faculty, staff and students who plan to attend are encouraged to wear ethnic apparel. Admission is free.

CLOTHING DRIVE
The Alpha Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is requesting the help of the SU family. Eight large trash cans have been placed in buildings around campus to serve as bins for the “Kappa Kloset Klothing Drive,” being held throughout the month of February. The brothers of Alpha Sigma are looking for clothes of all ages, sizes and genders to be donated to Shiloh Baptist Church and Greater New Guide Baptist Church. Donations can be dropped into the cans into any of the following buildings: Smith-Brown Memorial Union, P.B.S. Pinchback Hall, Seymour Hall, T.T. Allain, Higgins Hall, Blanks Hall, Mayberry Dining Hall and Harris Hall. Please assist Alpha Sigma in helping those less fortunate than ourselves for a change.
