It’s the most special and dreadful day of the year all rolled into one, VALENTINE’S DAY!!
Weeks have gone into planning this special day for that certain someone in your life. All you can think of is the expression on your Valentine’s face when they receive the “goodies” planned for them. Everything seems as if it will be “perfect”…
Then the “Valentine Curse”! The alarm goes off and the song playing on the radio is an old romantic tune that brings back great memories of your ex-sweetheart. The only problem is you can’t stop thinking about how your ex put it down, even though the new sweetheart is doing all the romantic things the day “requires.”
Have you ever heard a song and thought of an ex-sweetheart on Valentine’s Day? Many students at Southern University avoided the question, because they did not want to feud with their sweetheart on the big day.
However, there were some truthful jags out there.
“The song that reminds me of my ex-sweetheart is As We Lay by Kelly Price. The song described our situation a little too well. Even though we are no longer together, I still love him and he will always be in my heart,” said NaTasha Bates, a sophomore majoring in criminal justice.
Her situation could have been worse, she could still be “having fun” with the sweetheart that does not belong to her.
Then there are those students who have a little too much fun in their situations, causing a stronger “Valentine curse.”
“I can think back to one Valentine’s Day when I was with my boyfriend and I thought of my ex-boyfriend. It happened when the song Sex Me by R. Kelly came on. Damn, that song brought back so many juicy memories. I was caught up in that song thinking of my ex-boyfriend for the rest of the day. When my current boyfriend asked me what I was thinking about, all I could do was laugh and say “you,” said Kientha Smith, sophomore mass communications & urban affairs major.
Drama, Drama, Drama!! At least she was quick on her feet. A wrong answer could have ruined her relationship.
There are even times where the “Valentine curse” can get too complicated…especially when it’s a family affair.”
The song that reminded me of my ex-sweetheart was Get it Together by 702. That song came on and I became lost in the thought of my ex-girlfriend. We were perfect together and I messed up the relationship. It was extremely hard for me to hear this song on Valentine’s Day, because I was around my ex. My new girlfriend is my ex-girlfriend’s sister,” said Jaremone Headley, freshman marketing major.
Valentine’s Day, a time of love, caring, togetherness, and (evidently) great memories!
