This weekend, May 1-4, Mississippi Valley State will host Outdoor Track, and Southern will host Baseball and Softball to bring to an end the 2002-03 Southwestern Athletic Conference sports season.
Nearly 500 athletes, representing all ten SWAC schools’ men and women’s track teams will converge on Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Bena, Mississippi, to compete in the 2003 SWAC Track & Field Championship. Events will begin on Thursday, May 1st and conclude on Sunday, May 4th. Alabama State is the defending women’s team champion and Southern is the defending men’s team champion.
Outdoor Track Championships Schedule
Lee-Hines Stadium on the campus of Southern University will serve as the venue for the Baseball and Softball Championships May-2-4. The top two divisional teams will compete in the double-elimination championship tournament in both sports.
In softball, Alabama A&M (E1) and Southern (W2) will open play at 12:00n on Friday, May 2nd flowed by Prairie View (W1) and Miss. Valley (E2) at 2:00p. The championship game is set for 11:00a on Sunday, May 4th. Alabama A&M is the defending champion in softball.
Softball Tournament Bracket
On the baseball side, Miss. Valley (E1) will take on Texas Southern (W2) in the tournament’s opening game at 3:00p, with Southern (W1) facing Jackson State (E2) in the nightcap at 6:00p. The championship game, set for 12:00n, Sunday, May 4th is scheduled to be televised on FOX-TV. Southern is the defending champion in baseball.
