The annual Spring Fest Greek Show took place on April 25 in Seymour Gymnasium. The non-competitive festivity was highly anticipated by many of the students at Southern University.
“I am hyped to see the show because Greek organizations have always been apart of my life. My mother is a member of Delta Sigma Theta and my dad is a member of Omega Psi Phi. I am here to see how these organizations represent themselves,” said Kristie Jackson, a sophomore political science major from Las Vegas.
The Gymnasium was filled to capacity an hour before the show, leaving only standing room for the Greek organizations.
“I am excited to be apart of the Greek show. It is exciting to see all the supporters for the event,” said Kenna York, a spring 2003 initiate of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta.
The evening began with members of Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha participating in their familiar “trains.” While the “trains” continued, two little boys stole the spotlight by “Harlem Shaking” for the crowd.
The show promptly started at 7:30 with the Zeta Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. They kept the crowd laughing as they “raised the dead.”
The second group was the ladies of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta. The Zetas performance showcased their dance skills.
Next on stage were the “Death” Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma. The Sigmas entertained the crowd with their impressions of the other fraternities.
Now it was time to see the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta step.
“I’m here to cheer on my line sisters, I know they will represent for Alpha Tau,” said Tamara White, a spring 2003 initiate of Delta Sigma Theta.
The “divas” of DST brought the crowd to its feet with their stepping abilities.
The fifth group on stage was the Alpha Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. The “pretty boys” of Kappa Alpha Psi showcased their cane-twirling skills.
The final group was the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. The Alphas showed SU their moves.
There were many surprises throughout the night and everyone seemed to have a favorite part of the evening.
“I am proud to see all the Greek organizations together and showing their respect and pride for one another,” said Rashad Harrison, a spring 2003 initiate of the Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma.
Students in attendance gave rave reviews for the event.
“I enjoyed the choreography and unity. It was a beautiful thing,” said Roosevelt Johnson, freshman biology major from San Diego.
