Southern University Lady Jaguar softball team was defeated by Southeastern Louisiana University Lady Lions 12-4 at Lady Jaguar Field.
It was a close and exciting game in the beginning; Southern (15-13) was playing well up until the fourth inning when Southeastern (14-28) started to get good hits and executing nice plays on defense.
“When your playing a team that has good hitters, its nothing you can do,” said SU softball head coach Nancy Marshall. “We try to capitalize on errors.” Southern made two errors, and Southeastern made one.
Freshman pitcher Jamye Roberts for Southern pitched five innings and had nine hits. “We just have to buckle down and keep our head in the play,” said Roberts. Southern next opponent will be Grambling; the SWAC game is scheduled Friday at 2p.m. Friday.
Southern has the best defense in the SWAC with .943 fielding percentage.
