WRITING PROFICIENCY RETAKE EXAM
The Writing Proficiency Retake Examination will be given on Thursday, April 10, 2003. LA OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLES COMES TO SUBR
The Mobile Customer Service Center, Louisiana DMV’s Office On Wheels will be coming to the SUBR campus on Monday, April 14, 2003, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Smith-Brown Memorial Union. Free services provided will include voter’s registration, organ donation and address changes. Charged services include driver’s license renewal or duplicate, initial, renewal of duplicate identification card, mobility impaired hang tags, name changes, vehicle title and registration, renew Louisiana license plates, duplicate vehicle registration and title. Cash or checks accepted. No credit cards. Proof of insurance is required for all drivers’ license and vehicle registration transaction.
FREE INCOME TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE
Free assistance with preparation of your 2002 income tax forms is available from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each Saturday, beginning February 15 until April 12 at the Southern University Law Center, A.A. Lenoir hall on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will help qualified persons prepare the 1040A and 1040EZ forms. LITERARY SOCIETY SPRING ACTIVITIES
The SU Literary Society invites everyone to attend its spring semester activities, which include book reviews, a lecture series and a readers’ series featuring local and regional authors reading their works. Book reviews will be held on April 22. The Readers’ Series will be held on April 23. OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR HEALTH INSURANCE
Open enrollment for health insurance for faculty and staff is scheduled April 1-30. Open enrollment meetings will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union on April 7. Scantron documents will be available one hour prior to each meeting. SU Nursing School Accepting SDS Applications
The Southern University School of Nursing will be accepting applications for the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students beginning April 1-14. These applications are for Nursing majors who are and will be registered full-time. Awards are dependent upon funding from the granting agency center. Applications are available in the B.S.N. Americans with Disabilities Act/Discrimination Grievance Procedures
Southern University and A&M college had adopted an internal procedure for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging discrimination, including any actions prohibited by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Title II states, in part that in programs or activities sponsored by a public entity, “No otherwise qualified individual with a disability shall solely by reason of disability, be excluded form participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination.” All discrimination/SDA or 504 complaints should be addressed to:

Grievance Procedures
1. All complaints should be filed in writing, contain the name and address of the person(s) filing it, and briefly describe the alleged violations(s).
2. A complaint should be filed within 90 days after the grievable event or the date on which complainant becomes aware of the alleged violation.
3. An investigation, as may be appropriate, shall follow the filing of the complaint. The investigation shall be conducted and, barring extenuating circumstance, concluded within 60 days of filing by either the ADA compliance officer/coordinator or other designee, depending on the nature of the grievance. These rules anticipate informal but thorough investigations, affording an interested person and their representative notice and an opportunity to be heard and to submit evidence relevant to a complaint.
4. A written determination as to the validity of the complaint and a description of the resolutions shall be issued by either the ADA compliance officer/coordinator or other designee and a copy will be forwarded to the complainant no later than 15 working days after if filing.
5. The ADA compliance officer/coordinator shall maintain the files and records of Southern University relating to complaints filed.
6. Should the grievant desire to appeal the written determination, the appeal should be filed in writing with 15 days of receiving a written determination as to the validity of the complain. The appeal should describe the grounds upon which the complaint bases his or her appeal. The appeal should be addressed to Chancellor, Southern University and A&M College, 3rd Floor, J.S. Clark, Administration Building, Baton Rouge, LA 70813.
7. A written determination as to the validity of the appeal and a description of the resolution shall be issued by the Chancellor or his designee and a copy will be forwarded to the complainant no later than 15 days after its filing. The determination of the Chancellor or his designee will be final and binding.
