The Southern University quiz bowl team seeded eighth among the play-off teams making it to the “Sweet 16” at the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge.
The three-day academic competition was Orlando, Fla. Teams from 64 historically black colleges and universities competed for over $300,000 in institutional grants.
Florida A&M University defeated South Carolina State University in the final round winning $50,000 and ending a two-year winning streak by Morehouse College.
The SU team won $6,000 and trophy, which is on display in the Chancellor’s office.
In 2000, SU placed second in the competition earning $32,000.
Members of the SU team include Team Captain Christopher Lacour, a senior political science major; Keyonn Pope, a junior electrical engineering major; Jonathan Campbell, a junior economics major; Michael Johnson, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, and Jabari Roberts, a sophomore computer science major.
William Moore, a professor in the Department of Chemistry is the team coach and Beverly Wade, dean of the Honors College is the Honda liaison for the university.
