A Southern University freshman has been arrested in connection with the April 6 shooting of three other SU freshmen.
Steven Jamell Ratcliff, 19 of 1110 Silverwood Drive was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on April 8 and charged with three counts of principle to attempted first-degree murder and one count of violation of a firearm-free zone.
Billy Jenkins, from Thibodaux was shot in his left thigh while New Orleans natives Alcier McGee and Jovan Watson were shot also. Watson was also wounded in his left thigh and McGee was wounded in his right foot.
As of press time, Ratcliff was being held on $50,000 bond, but is not suspected as being the primary shooter.
Southern University Police Department Chief Dale Flowers stated that three or four more people are still being sought after in connection with the shooting.
In an earlier statement released by Flowers, he said that the students at the university needed to get more involved with helping the police. He also said that the university as a whole had to make residents, faculty, staff and visitors more at ease.
