Winter has run its course and temperatures are on the rise. College students all over the country are ready for a change of scenery and midterms are finally over. That can only mean one thing…it’s time for SPRING BREAK!!!
This break season will have Southern University students flocking to all the
“Fun in the Sun” spots, especially Daytona Beach, Fla. This year Daytona is hosting BET’s annual “Spring Bling.”
Conveniently for us, the event will start up at the same time as our much needed break. A festivity such as “Spring Bling” is waiting for the infamous “SU chant.”
With huge parties jumping off all along the coasts in honor of spring break, students will be participating in activities that don’t need to be mentioned. Before we run off to show as much skin as we can and to drink all the Hypnotiq we can consume, did we forget about spending the break with the ones we love?
I’m not talking about that chicken-head girl or boy that gives you that “special feeling” when the two of you are “together”…I am talking about your family. Before you throw that idea out of the window, remember if it were not for the support of your family…many of you would not be in school today.
For whatever reason it may be, many of you have not been home since you arrived on campus this semester. Don’t feel bad, I have not been home either. Whenever my parents bring up the question of going home, I attempt to come up with the best excuse five seconds has to offer. If you didn’t know, five seconds is all the time you will have to answer the question. If you take longer than five seconds, your parents will know you are lying.
If you are undecided about that planned road trip with your buddies for the break, consider going home and catching up with your family…don’t run from them.
Going home to chill with family for the break may not be a bad experience. You have not been in college that long…it could be fun to go back and do the things you did before you came to Southern. Some students feel they have “out-grown” home and are attempting to erase bad experiences. Honestly, those experiences could not have been that bad or you would not have done them in the first place. Being at home may actually be the vacation you need.
I’m not trying to persuade students into going home simply because I’ll be at home for the break. We as college students tend to lose that great feeling of being home. No matter where we are in life, there is no place like home.
Whatever your plans are for the vacation, remember to be safe and make the best out of the situation.
