The Beta Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc focused on nutrition, mental, and physical health at its annual Relating Healthy program in Octavia Clark dormitory.
The program also touched on spiritual well being.
Jazmine Millican, program chairperson, said the soul with the mind and body was essential keys to health.
“Self reflection, poetry, and prayers are was you can check your soul,” said Renada Wright, Beta Psi member.
Valerie Richardson, a registered dietician/nutritionist with Southern University Family Consumer Science Department told the audience the importance of eating a well balanced diet.
“Good proper health is no good without balance food servings. Healthy eating is the essential key,” said Richardson.
Richardson does not advocate dieting. However, she did recommend drinking an energy supplement. She also encouraged the audience to increase their vegetable and water intake.
She also told the audience to make time to eat even if you have a busy schedule.
“Many African American are unaware of balanced eating habits. The program help me to reflect on some lifestyle habits I need to consider changing,” said Toccara Robinson, sophomore biology major from Baton Rouge.
