“They were real nervous,” said Head Coach Sandy Pugh of the team’s performance last Friday’s game.
Despite the 34-point victory Coach Pugh, was concerned about her team, especially about star guard Jacklyn Winfield’s dismal 2 for 15 shooting performance. But she made up for it in their second exhibition game of the season. The Jags took on the Ladies of Babes Basketball here at the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Sunday afternoon. Where they had to again show the fans that they are about business. A 99-56 finish over the Babes showed just that.
“I thought we were terrible on defense, but we had a lot of individual great efforts,” said Pugh.
And one of those individuals with great effort was that of Tremesha Colbert, who poured in 19 points in only 18 minutes of action which led the Jaguars in scoring. Junior Cherise Sims also had a solid game posting 17 points and 7 rebounds in Friday’s game against the Alabama Wrath.
The Jaguars cruised to an 86-52 victory over the Wrath. Taurus Pyles led the Wrath with 16 points and six rebounds. The Jags used 21 turnovers to widen the point margin in the fast paced contest.
Jacklyn Winfield poured in 22 points in 22 minutes of play leading the Jaguars to this illustrious victory. Junior (Meridian C.C.) did a great job for the Jags putting up 14 points with 7 assists, a newcomer to the Jaguar Basketball program.
Babes Sherlander Lewis shooting 11 for 18 scored 26 points for the Babes which didn’t help them much in the contest.
