Southern University bowling team competed in Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic held November 2-4 at the Brunswick Creek Lanes in Marietta, Georgia.
The jaguars placed tenth overall out of eighteen schools in the National Tournament.
“Last year’s we did not make the cut at all but this year we made a big improvement” said Lyndsey Stewart.
Last year team did not make it past the qualifying rounds and went home early but this year they were able to compete until the end.
“Tenth place in a national tournament is not trouble but we should have place sixth or seventh,” said Coach Karen Couvillion.
Two of the bowlers also placed in the Top 25 overall in the tournament. Reynika Tillery place 17th with 17 sai 28 pins. Lyndsey Stewart placed 23rd overall with 1676 pins.
This meet sets the tone for how well we can finish in the National Championship.
“This is one of the hardest tournaments for the team to bowl. It would have helped if our coach had been more supportive toward the end when we were not doing so well,” said Tillery.
The ladies had a hard time adjusting to the lanes as they began to dllerry up. They were leading in pins until the end of the tournament when Tillery had to compete in the baker matches.
“The teams they should have lost to they beat in Baker matches and the ones they should have beat they lost to that is how I know my girls had the ability to place six or seventh place, “said Couvillion.
Morehead State University won the, tournament, however in baker matches SU beat them by over a 100 pins. As a team, the SU bowlers were content with their performance just a little disappointed in their coach reaction to their overall out in the meet.
The bowling team will be competing at home Friday November 9 against Prairie View and Saturday November 10 against Texas Southern against Prairie View.
