The Southern University basketball team ended its exhibition season with a win over Lake Charles Supreme Court.
The Jaguars defeated Supreme Court 91-71 Wednesday in the F.G. Clark Activity center to remain undefeated in the preseason. Brian Johnson led all scorers with 26 points on 11-23 shooting in 33 minutes of play.
The surprise of the game was the great leadership and play of Johnathan Oliver who received playing time due to the injury of Victor Tarver. Oliver scored 11 points and dished out 10 assists while running the offense with precision.
“I didn’t play in the first game so once coach put me in I knew I had to play my best and play my role like coach wanted me to play it,” said Oliver.
Nicholas Egland was second on the team in scoring with 14 and led the team with 11 rebounds. Peter Cipriano added 13 points and 9 rebounds.
“The team is coming around we still have a few things to work out before the season starts,” said Head coach Ben Jobe.
The Jaguars dominated the points in the paint outscoring Lake Charles 62-26. They also got 22 fast break points and 33 points off turnovers.
“The team is playing pretty good but we can get better, we are going to win a lot of games and surprise some teams this year.” said Johnson.
Southern opens the season November 19 at Louisiana State.
