Tavis Smiley, author of “Covenant with Black America” and host of “Tavis Smiley” on PBS will be on Southern University’s campus Oct. 24 for the Talented Tenth HBCU Tour.
According to Smiley’s press release, the author explained his reasoning for the tour. “I created this tour to enlighten, encourage and empower students to think about what their own leadership legacy will bring. That is what they can do today that will echo throughout their com-munities, careers, and ultimately throughout history.”
Smiley will lead a two-hour interactive discussion in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union at 6 p.m. Students are encouraged to visit Smiley’s Web site, www.tavistalks.com and register for the event, which is free. Points of discussion will include the characteristics of successful role models in the areas of business, public service, religion and academia.
