GRAMBLING, La. – Southern University women’s basketball team scored a season high 83 points to sweep the season series with the Lady Tigers of Grambling State University 83-61.
“I didn’t think we did a very good job at all,” said head coach Sandy Pugh. “I thought there were some miscues defensively, on their part that we were able to take advantage of.
Southern (9-10, 7-3 SWAC) extended their winning streak to five with the victory. Four Jags scored in double figures for the first time this season. Freshman Courtney Scott led the team with 16 points and five rebounds. Junior Diedra Jackson recorded 14 points and five assists. Senior Indi Johnson scored 12 points, her ninth double point game of the year, and grabbed four rebounds. Rounding out the double digit performers for SU was Freda Allen, who ended her seven game double digit rebounding streak by grabbing five. Allen ended the game with 10 points.
The win is coach Pugh’s 129th on “the bluff” and her seventh five game win streak at Southern. This is her first five game win streak since March of 2006 during the 2005-2006 season.
The loss was Grambling’s (1-19, 0-10) 19th consecutive. GSU’s only win came against Texas College.
