The Black Executive Exchange Program hosted “Find Your Voice”, a forum on public speaking designed to assist students with improving their public speaking skills. Members from Fortune 500 Companies as well as the appointed judges for the event gave feedback and advice to participants regarding voice control and language. The competition also had a 100 dollar prize for the winner.
Jami Blackston, a junior Business Management major hopes this is something BEEP does every year, and not just within the College of Business.
“This is very beneficial to everyone, not just those in the College of Business, but other majors as well,” explained Blackston. “It’s important to get insight on how to answer these questions properly and be prepared for an interview, and the real world,” said Blackston. “I think it would also be great if BEEP collaborated with another organization to bring in more students because this is something that every student in every major can use to their advantage,” finished Blackston.
Jamal Montgomery, a Law School student, was the winner of the competition. Montgomery stated that although he didn’t plan on participating in the beginning, he believed the event helped him tremendously.
“As any student in a professional matter, you have to be a great communicator, so practicing getting two minute speeches down was a great experience for me,” explained Montgomery. “My family’s motto is excellence is the standard, and I try to live up to that every day,” finished Montgomery.
The competition ended with a photo session and luncheon in Mayberry Dining Hall.
