The Rumble in the Jungle Pep Rally took place in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Friday, October 13, featuring engaging students, alumni, and future jags. The event attracted students to the mini-dome, where The Geaux Team and The Jaguar Activities Board had different games and DJ Neff set up to keep students engaged.
The event began with a special Code Blue Stomp and Shake Team performance, setting the tone for the upcoming performances. An outstanding moment occurred when the Geaux Team hosted a game titled “Imitate the Drum Major,” where they chose five contestants from the crowd and had to imitate the drum major entrance move for move. This showcased the students being able to participate and maybe find a newfound hobby.
The football team was the event’s highlight, where football head coach Eric Dooley and the team made their entrance. Coach Dooley stated, “I know last week was a disappointment, but we guarantee a win for homecoming week this week.” Conversations flowed as he said that because the loss against FAMU was such a close call. Many students eagerly anticipated the football team’s performance, hoping to witness a triumphant comeback after their recent loss. The atmosphere was filled with a mix of excitement and determination as the crowd rallied behind Coach Dooley’s confident words, eager to support their team and celebrate a victorious homecoming week.
One Student, Jessica Bellamy, a freshman majoring in criminal justice who attended the event, shared her perspective: “The Rumble in the Jungle pep rally was very lit and set the tone for the homecoming game. It also allowed me to see performances from the band and the dancing dolls up close and personal. “
As the event ended, students were gifted with “All Southern Homecoming” merchandise, including shirts, fans, and fanny packs. The merchandise served as a souvenir for students to remember the memorable homecoming week and proudly display their school spirit. Many students were seen wearing their new shirts and using their fans and fanny packs throughout the rest of the week’s festivities.
The Rumble in the Jungle event may have been the highlight of Friday. The event hopes to impact students’ homecoming and will continue to impact this year’s homecoming events.
