Being thankful can be considered in multiple aspects. When I think of gratitude, I associate it with happiness and overwhelming joy. Thanksgiving, in particular, brings immense joy to my heart as it is a time that combines happiness, togetherness, and the celebration of family and friends. It’s a moment to appreciate the presence of loved ones, even those from distant places, coming together to share a meal and create lasting memories.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the importance of family and friends, a cherished aspect of life that should not be taken for granted. As the holiday approaches, there’s a unique opportunity to embrace the season and indulge in the comfort of home. For many, being surrounded by family and participating in cultural traditions during Thanksgiving is a beautiful experience—a blend of reflection, relaxation, and quality family time.
Dr. Stephens from the MCOM Department suggests that students take advantage of the Thanksgiving break by spending time with loved ones, expressing gratitude, and giving thanks for another year. While Thanksgiving traditions may have evolved over time, the joy derived from spending time with family remains a constant.
As a college student, Thanksgiving breaks might not be the same as in high school, but the limited time available is often utilized wisely to rest and savor home-cooked meals. A homemade plate holds special significance for college students, offering a welcome break from fast food or instant noodles.
Personal family traditions during Thanksgiving have shifted over the years. High school days were marked by delightful gatherings, music, and close sibling interactions. Reflecting on those times, I now realize the value of those moments. Today, attending the Bayou Classic has become a tradition for my family, spanning from Thursday to Sunday. It’s a time of bonding, exploration, and experiencing new things together.
Despite evolving traditions, the essence of Thanksgiving remains a time of love and light. Establishing and nurturing personal traditions can contribute to the warmth and joy associated with this special holiday.
