Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, is a dynamic and esteemed organization that has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of African-American sisterhood, scholarship, service, and finer womanhood. Founded on January 16, 1920, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Zeta Phi Beta emerged as a response to the desire for a more inclusive and supportive community for African-American women within the realm of sororities.
To begin with, with their annual celebration beginning on a day of glorifying Sunday worship, the finer women of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta put forth a successful week! Following the service were the Self Defense Classes, “Sweet Talk,” as well as Pretty Wednesday, and “Stepping up to the Plate.” The sorority places a strong emphasis on academic achievement, encouraging its members and those seeking membership to excel in their educational pursuits. Best friend of a member of Zeta Phi Beta, Roneil Daniels, expressed, “My best friend always wanted to be a teacher, so when she popped out in her blue and white, it wasn’t too big of a surprise. Being able to see the Beta Alpha Chapter host events definitely makes me feel like she is near. They are great!”
The Beta Alpha chapter has been known for its dedication to community service, contributing to various charitable instances that uplift and empower marginalized communities. The sorority’s commitment to sisterly love allowed for the Sorority’s prospective week to flow beautifully and successfully whilst showcasing a supportive network that extends beyond collegiate years.Not to mention, one of the distinctive features of Zeta Phi Beta is that the sorority serves as a platform for personal and professional growth, equipping its members with the tools and mindset needed to excel in various aspects of life. Zeta Phi Beta has also made significant contributions to social and political activism. The sorority has been involved in advocating for civil rights, women’s rights, and social justice causes. Through its various initiatives and collaborations, Zeta Phi Beta continues to be a force for positive change, hence the hosting of a self-defense class. Many students gathered on January 22, near the intramural complex, to aid the Beta Alpha Chapter in the advocation of women’s safety and their rights, and to learn how to fight back in the eyes of crime. Business major, JayMon Payne states, “ It was amazing to witness women taking the time out of their day to learn how to protect themselves. People get crazier and crazier by the day, so it is never too late to learn how to fight back.
Even though the rain made its statement more than twice this week, each event continued to go out with a bang—except “Stepping Up to the Plate,” which had been postponed. Otherwise, each event held by the Beta Alpha Chapter of Z Phi B was nothing less of a success and an opportunity to showcase to their peers the dedication to, and importance of, their values.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, stands as a beacon of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and finer womanhood. With a rich history rooted in empowerment and community, the sorority has left an indelible mark on the lives of its members and the communities it serves. Upon the ending of the finer week, an informational was held to show interest in joining the Beta Alpha Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.
