The AD Magic Internship has since long stood out as a major changing experience that provides a unique blend of development in creativity, as well as exploration, and great hands-on learning experiences. This publishing company opens doors to many Historically Black Colleges and Universities, also known as HBCU’s, goers to venture off into the world of creative content development.
AD Magic was created in 2019 by Charity Pourhabib, a Hampton University graduate. This space was created for other HBCU students to get a taste of what it is like to work in this space as well as allow room for representation. Students chosen from various Historically Black Colleges and Universities gather to gain experience in advertising. Being exposed to a multifarious varied learning environment, students can gain insight on the aspects of commercials, print ads, billboards, physical products, and social media campaigns. One of the dynamic duo, and Junior Mass Communications major, Jodeci Ashford comments on her experience in the cohort so far by saying, “We were all HBCU students, and we were all purposely chosen for different reasons. My peers and I were free to utilize the space given as our creative dispensary. We were in the program to get our feet in the door, to learn how to maneuver in a creative agency.
From the conceptualization of marketing ideas to the intricacies of production, interns have opportunities to engage with every stage of the process. With the hands-on approach, a deeper understanding of the industry is fostered by the students. With offices in New York, Portland, and many more cities, Wieden+Kennedy serves as a staple for independent agencies and the creation of powerful relationships between great companies and those companies’ customers.
One of the star students, Senior Mass Communications Major, with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism, Ashley Lovelace expresses, “When it comes to AD Magic, I feel like I am Alice and I am in wonderland because it is nothing like any cohort, I have ever been a part of, and I have been a part of a few… You are free to be your full creative self. The Program ends in March, but I am super excited to see where it goes.”
This internship goes beyond technical skills, placing a strong emphasis on professional development. From mentorship to guidance, interns benefit from many professionals in these industries. Charity Pourhabib quotes, for those seeking an excellent and impactful internship experience, AD Magic provides that, plus more, exceptionally. Not to mention those with hearts filled with marketing joy and desires to dive into the world of advertising, among many other branches that feel as if they just do not belong, Charity Pourhabib quotes, “Similar to Kennedy, who loved the left-behinds, the what-iffers, the upside-downs, and the inside-outs, ADMagic calls on those students that aren’t normally given a seat at the table provides an opportunity for them to learn about the industry while utilizing their own unique creativity and veins of the world.”
