The overwhelming aroma of homecoming circulated the air as people began to fill up the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Southern University’s mini dome on October 14.
The event began late 7 pm as the host, Wild N’ Out star Chico Bean began the show. He quickly got the crowd out of their chairs and immersed in the show. The acts began shortly after starting with comedian Navv Green.
Green received a positive reaction from the crowd as he attempted to relate to students and what appealed to them. Laughter remained to flow through the crowd and smiles could be seen everywhere you looked.
The next guest to make an appearance was comedian Blaq Run. Run’s comedic approach was very direct and targeted. He made it apparent that he was going to express himself however he pleased. Run even made it in the crowd at one moment to capitalize on that point.
The last and final comedian to appear was Ms. Pat. With her unapologetic nature, she quickly formed a connection to the crowd. She was very interactive and spoke directly to the crowd multiple times throughout her set.
The show ended around 9 pm as people remained upbeat and energetic.
It is key to recognize the elements of what goes into planning an event of this magnitude. To do so, SGA president Kennedy Orr was asked “What does it take to pull an event like this together?” To which she responded, “A lot goes into production. I think a big thing that people don’t realize that goes into events of this scale is like security and making sure that we get everybody in, making sure everybody is safe, and that everybody just has a great time.”
People did just that as students had many positive comments to make about the show.
Student Rhian Kennedy said her favorite moment was when comedian “Blaq Run chased that little boy up them stairs.” When asked if she enjoyed the show, she said “I did enjoy it, I loved everybody that came.” Senior Nyla Wilson had the same favorite moment from the show and when asked if she enjoyed the show, she responded “yes I did.” She also added, “I love Ms. Pat, she was real funny.” Events like this are meant to bring people together in a positive way, so if you can, show up and definitely show out!
