In just two days, Southern University will host one of the most highly anticipated events of the semester: the homecoming concert. Southern students look forward to it every year. This year’s lineup features four artists, but all eyes are on the headliner, rapper GloRilla.
Gloria Hallelujah Woods is known mostly by her stage name GloRilla. She rose to stardom in 2022 after the release of her hit single “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” with producer HITKIDD. Ever since then things have been looking up for the Memphis rapper. After the commercial success of her single, GloRilla signed to fellow Memphis rapper, Yo Gotti’s record label Collective Music Group. Upon signing GloRilla began to find mainstream success, gaining fans nationwide.
This brings us to the present where she will be performing for the student body of Southern University. She is fresh off the release of her new album, “Glorious,” which features notable artists such as Kirk Franklin, Megan Thee Stallion, and Latto, who performed at Southern’s Homecoming just last year. The rapper has also been gaining a lot of commercial success with songs such as “Wanna Be”, “Yeah Glo”, “TGIF”, “Bop”, and “Hollon”. With the help of the social media app TikTok and content creators, the rapper has also started several dance trends nationwide.
Since her arrival was revealed to students on September 27th, 2024, at the Homecoming Artist Reveal by the Jaguar Activities Board students have been anticipating her performance. Kayse Pettus a junior Business Accounting major she had this to say, “Being that Southern University is known for having great concerts, having a mainstream artist such as GloRilla headline will help us continue to live up to the expectations of our traditions at Southern University.” With all her recent hits and success, GloRilla should have no problem pleasing the students of Southern University.
