Even in the East team’s 28-7 loss on January 10 in the 79th East-West Shrine Game, Southern University defensive back Lenny Williams demonstrated to the rest of the collegiate and pro football community that he is a force to be reckoned with. The 6’1, 190-lb. Williams represented the East in the annual game that showcases many of the best senior talent in college football.
Williams collected five tackles, deflected one pass and intercepted a pass for 23 yards at the game held at SBC Park (formerly Pac Bell Park) in San Francisco. He was also given an opportunity to return a punt 12 yards.
Grambling State wide receiver Tramon Douglas represented the East also and caught one pass for nine yards.
Both players were named to the 2003 All-Southwestern Athletic Conference First Team, with Williams winning SWAC defensive player of the year honors.
