Hailing from the “K-town” section of West Side Chicago, machine gun lyricist Carl Mitchell aka Twista, formerly known as Tongue Twista, blesses the industry with his new album Kamikaze. For those who are not up to speed, a Kamikaze was a Japanese pilot trained in World War II to make suicidal crash attacks.
Though Twista is far from a rookie in the game, this is his first major label outing in five years. Even though The Guiness Book of World Records credited him the fastest rapper in the world in 1992, it was a feature on the hit single “Po Pimp” with fellow Chi-town rappers Do or Die that brought Twista his biggest success. In 1996, he signed a new recording contract with Atlantic Records. Over the years he has worked with some of rap’s biggest names, including Jay-Z, Da Brat, P. Diddy, Timbaland and Shaquille O’Neal.
On his newest masterpiece, he collaborates with some of today’s hottest producers including Kayne West on “Slow Jamz,” with the lyrics that had everyone laughing: She got a light skinned friend look like Michael Jackson/ She got a dark skinned friend look like Michael Jackson, and Jamie Foxx singing the hook. The beginning of “Overnight Celebrity” samples Lenny Williams’ “I Love You” as West sings the hook. Jazze Pha represents on “Still Feel So Good,” a continuation of “Feel So Good” from the previous album Adrenaline Rush.
Kamikaze has a smooth mellow vibe with appearances by sweet singing guests R. Kelly, on “So Sexy” a song aimed at the ladies. Newcomer Anthony Hamilton sings the hook on “Sunshine” which samples Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day.” “Pimp On” features the legendary Too Short and the fat mack himself 8 Ball. This song is real playa. You would probably catch yourself bobbing unconsciously.
Kamikaze also features appearances from Roc-a-Fella recording artist Memphis Bleek, Young Chris, and Freeway. “Higher” features Ludacris on a track that sounds like a video game. T.I. and Liffy Stokes are featured on “Like a 24,” which has a club sound to it.
“Hope” with the help of Cee-Lo, Twista pays tribute to those who died recently and those who are already resting in peace.
In his raps, Twista reveals every emotions from sexual pleasure to pain. With his suicidal flow, Twista has definitely launched an attack on the rap game. Kamikaze is definitely worth some of your refund check…
