The Bayou Classic is a fiercerivalry between Southern University and Grambling State University that hasbeen going on for over thirty years.
The highlight of Bayou Classicweekend for students attending the gridiron battle will occur on the field ofthe Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans.
“I have been going to the BayouClassic football game ever since I was a baby,” said Tamika Scott, a sophomorenursing major from New Orleans.
“It is an important tradition in myfamily that I hope will always continue.” Scott said.
For others, the Bayou Classic representsa time to socialize and enjoy New Orleans.
“I’m not really interested in goingto the game,” said Natalia Hubert, a freshman from Baton Rouge.
“I am going to spend my weekendwalking around Bourbon Street and meeting new people.”
The annual Battle of the Bands andGreek Show will also occur during the festive weekend.
“This is my first time going to theBayou Classic and I am very excited about seeing the bands perform as well asseeing all the Greeks represent in the step show,” said Brittany Williams, afreshman majoring in biology from Jackson, Miss.
Although students plan oncelebrating the Bayou Classic in New Orleans, some out of state students arelooking forward to celebrating at home.
“I have not been home in a very longtime,” said Stephanie Howard, a freshman business major from San Diego.
“I love Southern but I would ratherwatch the game on TV from the comfort of my own home.”
