Chips, candy and snacks are sometimes the only adrenaline boosts that give students the motivation to make it through a long day of classes.
Students who spend the majority of their days in T.T. Allain enjoy the convenience of having all those things at their fingertips with their very own variety store.
Therese Johnson a senior accounting major from New Orleans enjoys the convenience of the T.T. Alain variety store.
“It is very convent for me to just walk down the hall to buy snacks without having to walk a mile and leave the building,” Johnson said.
The variety store in T.T. Allain has been in operation for 62 years, and is run by Earl C. Anderson.
“I have been working in the variety store for 62 years.” said Anderson, who is legally blind. “I enjoy my job, and I have interacted with thousands of students that come to the shop between classes.”
Former Southern University President F.G. Clark helped Anderson get his job in the variety store when it was first opened.
“I always buy snacks to eat before classes in the variety store,” said Tanisha Harris, a senior accounting major from Monroe,”It is very convenient for me to run into the store to buy snacks without having to walk all the way to the union or cafeteria.”
The variety store in T.T. Allain is open between the hours of 8 a.m to 3:30 p.m.
It offers a selection of snacks ranging from candy and chips to drinks and sandwiches.
“All of my classes are in T.T. Allain, and that is too far away from the center of campus to actually enjoy hanging out in the union and socializing,” said Kandice Pimpton, a senior marketing major from Dallas.
“T.T.Allain is like a private club for all the people in my department. We have our own lobby to hang out in between classes, but most importantly we have our own store so we don’t have to worry about leaving the building.”
