Hip-hopringtones have become a major obsession among cellular phone owners as theycontinue to up grade their phones.

The variety of ringtones gives peoplethe opportunity to showcase their individuality through their cellular phones.
“I think it’snice,” said Terri Scott, a freshman majoring in biology from New Orleans. “Therings set apart my phone from others. I know when I hear my rings, it’s myphone.”
Hip-hopringtones can often be heard as students walk to and from class.
”I think people use the ringtones to letothers hear what songs they have,” said Melissa Wright, a freshman majoring insociology and Spanish from St. Louis. “They use it as a way to show off.”
Many peopleselect certain ringtones to specify the individual that is calling them.
Sheldon Pearl, asenior majoring in criminal justice from Pleasant Grove, Texas, has manyringtones downloaded on his Sprint phone. “I got them because it lets me screencalls without actually looking at my phone.”
