On Thursday, April 8, SouthernUniversity Student Government Association approved two referendums to be placedon the spring 2003 election ballot.
Students will vote on Monday, April19.
The first referendum entails thatbeginning in the fall of 2004, appointed SGA officials and volunteers will besubjected to enrollment verification through the Registrar’s office.
The purpose of the referendum is toprotect the SGA against fraudulent activities that may be committed by anyonenot enrolled in the university. Those not enrolled in the university are deemed ineligible to participatein SGA activities.
The second referendum will requireall SGA candidates vying for an elected position must attend a mandatorytraining workshop for spring and fall election. The workshop will informcandidates of their potential duties and responsibilities if elected.
In order to take effect in the fall of 2004, each referendummust pass by two-thirds of the total number of students who vote.
