January 31 will be the last official day that Terrance Graves will be a member of the Southern University football team coaching staff. Effective February 3, the co-defensive coordinator will become the defensive coordinator at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va.
“The move is mostly to be closer to my family,” said Graves. “That really made the difference when the opportunity presented itself to me.”
Graves, who was entering his tenth season at SU, cited that due to illness in his immediate family, the move only made sense.
He was initially in the running for the position of head coach for Norfolk State. When Willie Gillus, Jr. was given the position, Graves was immediately called to head an ailing Spartans’ defense.
According to Jags head coach Pete Richardson, Henry Miller will become the lone defensive coordinator of the Jags football squad and that the positions he is intensively seeking are linebackers’ coach and recruiting coordinator.
Also assistant volleyball team coach Natasha Anderson and assistant track and field coach Albert Perry have departed from the Southern University Athletic Department. Anderson has left to pursue teaching interests and Perry has left for retirement.
