The Southern University Lady Jaguars soccer team (2-2) won their second game and first shutout of the season in a 6-0 win over the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University (1-3).
Last week’s SWAC Player of the Week Ashley Boutee scored four goals against the Lady Braves, three of which were scored in the first half.
Jessica Burrell and Cyra Charles also added to the Lady Jags’ scoring binge in the first half. Stephanie Robinson, Hillary Bruno and Jama Slaughter each got an assist in the ladies win.
Goalie Malette Herbert defensive work at the net prevented the Lady Braves from scoring. Out of the 11 shots attempted by Alcorn State, Herbert saved eight.
“I am very happy for the ladies on the team,” said SU women’s soccer head coach Rohan Naraine. “They have been working very hard and I am proud of their effort in each game 100 percent.”
Southern will play against the Lady Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their first home game.
The Jaguar Nation is encouraged to come out and support the Lady Jags in their historic first home game.
“We are excited about playing at home on Friday,” Rohan said. “We want everyone to come out and support us in such an historic event.”
The drop of the ball will be at 5 p.m. at Clark Park in Baker.
