Dress is the most important factor in non-verbal communication; so, when you present yourself at the workplace, keep it simple. What one would consider being appropriate at the workplace varies slightly from job to job. However, what is considered to be professional dress will always remain the same.
Starting from the top. If you have long hair, pull it up away from your face. Whether earrings or necklaces or rings, jewelry should be kept to a minimum.
For men and women a suit is the only appropriate choice. The suit should be a dark color such as black, navy blue, or dark gray. Pinstripes are also acceptable.
For men and women avoid heavy fragrances and if you have tattoos keep them covered.
Your shoes should be a dark color, depending on the color of your suit.
Ladies make-up should be subtle and make sure you don’t over do it.
Your blouse should have a modest neckline and your skirt should be at or slightly above the knee. Pantyhose should match your skin tone.
Your shoes should have closed heels and toes should be covered. Stay away from high heels.
When it comes to gentlemen, no bright colors or wild patterns.
Ties with small print or conservative stripes that match the suit are ideal.
Be conservative instead of trendy and most importantly, if you want to be successful you have to dress the part.
