The Southern University volleyball team dropped three games to the Privateers of the University of New Orleans (2-6) in their home opener last Tuesday in the Clifford T. Seymour Gymnasium.
The disheartening defeat resulted in the Lady Jaguars falling to 1-4 this season.
“I really thought we were better prepared to face them this season,” head coach Nathaniel Denu said.
In the first game, UNO posted a .342 attack percentage en route to a 30-20 victory. In game two, the Privateers out-maneuvered the ladies of Southern University 30-13. That victory proved to be inevitable with the Lady Jags .080 hitting percentage. The Privateers posted a .385 hitting percentage.
But just like last season, the Jaguars put up their best effort in the last game of the match. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late for the fighting Jaguars as they lost yet again to the Privateers 30-24.
Standing out in the Lady Jags losses was senior Tanisha McGill, who had six kills in game three.
This year’s match-up was almost an exact replay of last season’s massacre, when the Lady Jags were also defeated three games to none.
