The Southern University Lady Jags volleyball team is set to do battle against the Privateers of the University of New Orleans tonight at 7:30 p.m. in C.T. Seymour Gymnasium.
The Lady Jags are currently 1-1 overall this season and were swept by the Privateers last season in three games. The University of New Orleans is currently 1-4 overall this season.
“Last year’s game against UNO was one of our worst outings,” said Jags volleyball head coach Nathaniel Denu.
In last season’s contest, the Lady Jags opened the set by going down 30-12. The Privateers posted a .482 attack percentage while putting up a 17-9 lead. In game two, the Lady Jags .000 attack percentage led to a 30-13 defeat.
Game three saw the Lady Jags get out to a 7-2 lead before allowing UNO to tie the game by scoring five unanswered points. From that point, UNO handed Southern a 30-19 loss.
“Hopefully this season we will fair better against this program,” Denu said. “I feel we are better prepared this season.”
The Lady Jags opened the season in the Hampton University Tournament last weekend in Hampton, Va. The Lady Jags garnered one win over Savannah State University and one loss to the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University.
