With cake, candy, and other refreshments to lure students, current officers and members recruited ladies from all classifications to become active members of the Association of Women Students.
AWS held their annual membership Tuesday, February in the lobby of the Smith Brown Memorial Union. The event was held in conjunction with AWS Week 2003.
“Every female on campus should try to become more active in AWS. We do a lot of good educating and empowering the women of Southern University, ” Rosalind Erby, a senior, computer science major from Sacramento, Calif. Erby also served as chairperson of the drive.
Membership fees are added into to the cost of tuition.
“It makes sense to participate in the numerous activities since you are already paying for it,” said Erby.
“I’m joining AWS because they had a lot of interesting programs last semester, and it seems like an organization that will give me the opportunity to meet a lot of new, and positive people on campus,” said Crystal Dunn, a sophomore, majoring in Mass Communications from Erwinville.
This semester AWS is co-sponsoring the second annual Black Family Reunion at Louisiana State University. They also have numerous upcoming community services events and general body meetings to brainstorm on ideas for projects and programs dedicated to improving, entertaining, and bringing together the women of SU.
