The Southern University bowlers are still reigning in the western division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference undefeated at (7-0).
The Lady Jaguars traveled to Texas like a sweeping cyclone defeating Prairie View A&M on January 1 and University and Texas Southern University February 1.
“This is the best team that we have ever had. Everyone of the ladies worked very hard and have change something in their game to fine tune themselves,” Karen Couvillion head bowling coach.
The match against Prairie View was not just a win of over PVU with 4269 pinfalls to 4106 pinfalls. This was a record breaking and high scoring show that the Lady Jaguars put on.
The first set of matches was the singles where all but one of the Jaguars scored higher than PVU wining by 2853 pins to 2318. However, the doubles presented the biggest show. Freshman Erin Williams broke a SWAC record by bowling a 754 series which was formally held by SU Jaguar Junior Lynsey Stewart. Bowling along side Williams was Junior Bernadette Wooley who bowled an honor series score of 706 pins. Together those two won double with a score of 1460 to 1000 pins. The Jaguars finished PVU off by defeating them in Baker by 956 pinfalls to 788 pinfalls.
” It is very common to have a good day and then have a bad day. That is what happens to us at TSU,” said Couvillion.
The storm was not over for Texas Southern. Southern continued the next day although not as strong, sweeping through TSU and defeating them by 5022 pins to 4649 pins. The first set of games of the tournament was the singles, which Southern won by 2839 pins to 2476 pins. With Stewart bowling the high series in the singles of a 613 pinfalls. Southern was still able to finish off TSU and defeat them in Baker by 1009 pins to 944 for the win.
The bowling team will compete for the last time before the SWAC Bowling Championship against Arkansas Pine-Bluff Friday.
