It is interesting to me how a friend can ask you to help them on a project that you are doing or to get them into the door at your place of work. So, you help them out and bring them up with you. Everything is copacetic for a while.
Then they get in a position where you need to go to them for help. Then it’s “I can’t help you…” or “I do not know anything about that…” Then they stop speaking. So you try to figure out if it is you or something that you did.
Now it is two ways that you can handle this situation. You can handle it in a mature way or an immature way. You can confront the person about how you helped them along the way and that now you need and want their help. Or, you can take the mature way and say, it’s OK, cause you were obviously stronger than they were in the first place. Because, if you have accomplished certain things on your own without the help of others you can definitely accomplish things that are way above their head.
Sometimes we soon forget that at one point in time we needed help along the way in some endeavor that we were trying to achieve. Also at the same time the black race in a heartbeat will say ” I can’t help you with that…” knowing that we can help them out. It is as if we as a people have a slave-masters mentality. We want to make sure that we keep others in their place.
So, we soon forget that at one point in time we needed help and the only way we got where we are today is because of our past. In all that we do it should be about the betterment of society and not our personal agenda and goals. Also, we can’t forget where we came from. If you don’t know where you came from how do you know where you’re going…
