Homecoming 2002 is right around the corner for the Jaguar Nation.
Students and supporters can look forward to changes in the lineup and localities of the pre game events. Kicking things off was the coronation held on September September 19.
Miss Southern, Erica Walton, received her crown at the elegant affair. Monday, October 7 is the date for the annual Ecumenical Service with Rev. Dale Flowers officiating. The service will be held in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom at 10 a.m.
Tuesday is Blue and Gold day, a chance for the Jaguar Nation to show its true colors. The convocation will be held on Wednesday, October 9. Dennis Brown will be the speaker at this event, which captures the essence of Homecoming.
The “Apollo” Talent Show will serve host to a variety of students wishing to strut their stuff for the Nation., Also held on Wednesday, the amateur showcase will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Seymour Gym.
This year, the concert will be held on Thursday, October 10 at the Riverside Centroplex here in Baton Rouge. The location was changed, as were all of the pregame events, from the FG Clark Activity Center (Mini Dome) due to recent renovation activity. Students residing on campus without transportation need not be alarmed.
The Baton Rouge Public Transit System will be transporting students with a valid SU ID to and from the event. The pick up points will be the front of Jones Hall and at the Smith-Brown Memorial Union. Buses are expected to arrive at approximately 5p.m. on that date.
The Student Government Association has also arranged for the buses to transport students to the former City National Bank, Southern University’s ticket distributor. The dates are as follows: Tuesday, Oct. 1, Wednesday, Oct. 2, Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, October 9. The buses will be in front of the Union each specified day.
The concert lineup is sure to appeal to all students. Headlining the show will be rapper Ludacris. Also making appearances are Trina and R&B crooners Ruff Endz. The emcee for the event will be Mike Epps (Next Friday, All About the Benjamins).
“There will be reserved seating for students. However, it is advised to get tickets as soon as possible to ensure a good seat,” said Eric Mitchell, concert producer for the event. Tickets will are $5 for SU students and $20 for the general public. “Only one ticket per ID (will be issued),” Mitchell also stressed.
Doors will open at the Centroplex at 6:30 p.m. and the concert is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m.
