Jaguars football ink 18 on national signing day

Southern University head football coach Pete Richardson and the Jaguar football football program recieved 18 national letters of intent on national signing day last Wednesday.
Seventeen seniors from Louisiana and one from Mississippi signed national letters of intent to play football at Southern University next season
Head Coach Pete Richardson has secured young men to fill positions on both sides of the ball.
Coming to Southern University in fall are eight offensive and defensive linemen, three defensive backs, two running backs, two wide receivers, two tight ends, and one linebacker.
Once again Opelousas proved to be a primary source of talent for the Jaguars as Josh Babineaux, Cody McClendon, Jacobi Thierry, and Jacoby Collins join Michael Hayes and Al’Trevion Joubert among others who have enjoyed successful collegiate careers at SU.
Josh Babineaux, a 6-foot-2-inch, 190-pound defensive back from Opelousas (La.) High School recorded 80 tackles (58 solo), enough for first team All-district honors.
Jacoby Collins, a 6-foot-6-inch, 280-pound defensive lineman, was named first team All-District, All-Parish and All-State three years straight at Opelousas (La.) H.S.
Also signing a letter of intent from Opelousas (La.) H.S. was Cody McClendon, a 6-foot-3-inch, 270-pound defensive lineman.
All-St. Landry Parish and second team All-District honoree Jacoby Thierry, a 6-foot-3-inch, 275-pound offensive lineman, also committed to Southern University.
Four Baton Rouge prepsters, running back Darren Jarvis and wide receiver Antonio Overstreet from Capitol High School, James Vernon, a wide receiver from Glen Oaks H.S. and tight end Brian Washington of Catholic H.S. also committed to SU.
Archbishop Shaw in Harvey produced two signees. Lance Ancar, a 6-foot-2-inch, 270-pound offensive lineman garnered all-district honors twice in District10-5A. Fred Wilkins, a 6-foot-4-inch, 315-pound lineman voted Lineman of the Year by his peers.
Defensive backs Dio Bernard of Donaldsonville (La.) H.S., Leo Bethelemy of Port Sulphur (La.) H.S. and Jarmone Smith of John McDonough (New Orleans) H.S. also committed themselves to the Jaguar football team.
Rounding out the list of signees are offensive tackle Tremaine Johnson of Wilkinson County (Woodville, Miss.) H.S., Vincent James, offensive tackle from L.W. Higgins (Avondale, La.) H.S., Michael Manuel, a tight end from Port Sulphur (La.) H.S., and offensive lineman Keidren Davis from Baker (La.) H.S.
