“Aeneas” (Greek)…Worthy of Praise. No name could have a truer meaning for Southern University’s own Aeneas Williams. Playing his 11th year in the National Football League, Williams’ career has been one in which he has sowed hard fields, but the benefits reaped are well accepted.
The St. Louis Rams cornerback has been rewarded with accolade after accolade in his pro football career, but none can hold up his debut in the upcoming NFL Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Williams was a standout from the moment he set foot onto the field as a walk-on for the Southern University football team. He earned a starting position by the fifth game of the season. As a junior, he ranked second in the nation in interceptions, and shared the national lead in interceptions as a senior with 11. In three collegiate seasons, he had 218 tackles, 20 interceptions, and 25 pass deflections; and he still managed to graduate with a 3.2 grade point average.
