It was just announced on Monday that Toys ‘R’ us is laying off almost 2,000 employees. Just before this I heard Ford Motor Co. is laying off 35,000 employees worldwide, and didn’t the airline industry collectively lay off approximately 100,000 workers? Are we beginning to see a pattern in corporate America that it’s OK to lay-off workers and not care about what they’re going to do. When are we gonna say enough is enough?
Now I know, since 9/11 people have been afraid to spend money, but peoples’ lives are beginning to resume and we are now seeing the repercussions of the attacks four months down the line. Here we are, one of the greatest nations in the world, that has our own problems and it seems that we are the only country that is worried about fighting a war to stop terrorists acts around the world. Now don’t get me wrong, I am all for fighting but what I am against is the issue of all of these displaced workers here in our own homeland.
Everyday on the news I hear about another company that is filing bankruptcy or laying off employees and we’re so worried about what’s going on over in Afghanistan that we have heard no plan on creating jobs, or giving relief to Americans. We need to start pressing on our elected officials to create jobs, or otherwise they’ll be out of a job themselves once election time comes around. Then we’ll see how it feels to be “laid off”
People in power don’t know and understand what we as Americans are going through, because we tend to talk amongst ourselves and not to the people we trust our future with. The decision is up to us about the outcomes of what we want and expect from our country. If we as Americans don’t express our feelings about all of these jobs being lost then we have lost as well.
